Town of Meeker
Project Description:
After completion of a market and economic strategy and investing in fiber optic lines carrying high-speed internet service throughout the town, the Board of Trustees felt it was an opportune time to also ensure that the built environment reflected the desired character. The intention of these guidelines was to further the goals of these other projects by implementing policies and standards that will provide increased walkability and pedestrian connection between the downtown and the river front. Through this process, two areas were identified: First, downtown Meeker included the original commercial downtown of upheld the historic character of the area. Secondly, these standards created building and site design standards for the more auto-oriented properties adjacent to Colorado State Highway 13 which bisects the town as is the case in most rural Colorado communities. Key to the success of this project was to not overburden development to a point where redevelopment was infeasible. Our team struck a balance between furthering the goals of the built environment while not financially overburdening property owners.
